Inspiration | Basalt columns are rare long solid columns of basalt formed from hardened lava creating  natural hexagonal stone pillars. Our inspiration for this piece is drawn from the Fingal's Cave in the Isle of Staffa in Scotland. The geology of this unique place showcases hexagonal columns that arise up to 72 feet high and go as far down as 270 feet deep. The dramatic appearance of these monumental six sided pillars resemble a close-up layer of a raven's wings.
